What's
the definition of an Open Book Exam (OBE)?
An OBE can be described as an exam
that permits candidates to utilize study resources and research sources
including the internet for answering questions.
OBEs are frequently employed in
universities and colleges and are a legitimate method of assessing. It
will not reduce the standard or quality of your degree. The OBE is now the
only official assessment alternative to obtain International General
Certificate applicants in the future.
The NEBOSH open book exam paper has
two parts. Part one is a scenario while the other part is the
questions. Here are some helpful tips for answering the questions based on
a scenario.
You have 24 hours in which to finish the
NEBOSH exam, giving you the time, you'll need to complete your
answers. Furthermore, the time you have to complete this exam doesn't need
to be completed in one sitting. You can divide it into 24 hours or complete it
all in one go. A majority of students complete the OBE in about 4 hours.
Where
can I sit for the exam?
The OBE is a simple process that can
take place at home at work, or at any other location that you feel comfortable
and in a quiet space. It is best to pick a place which is
peaceful. While you are allowed access to your resources, you're not
allowed to reach your teacher or any other person to assist you in your
research via e-mail or phone.
We suggest locating a site that
- It is comfortable, best with a chair and desk
- Have space to keep your notes and study materials
- Strong Wi-Fi signal
- It is quiet, private, and free of distractions
- A clock, which means you can keep track of your time

What
is a scenario-based inquiry?
The Open Book Exam, you'll receive a
scenario along with 10 questions.
The scenario is an imagined workplace
scenario that includes certain background information regarding the job you are
playing. You must carefully think about the specifics of your role and then
relate them to the situation in your responses.
A sample of a scenario-based exam is
available in the revision and e-learning resources. Be aware, however, that the
scenario that is presented to you on exam day may not be exactly the same as
the paper you have been given. This is just a practice paper for NEBOSH in
Pakistan.
What
kind of questions are included in the NEBOSH exam?
The questions will be based on
syllabus elements 1 to 4. The entire NEBOSH exam will have the use of a
scenario, and you will be required to finish the task.
A few examples of questions in the exam might be:
- "Prepare notes on the moral arguments that you'll be using when you chair your health and safety committee's meeting". (The principal word is "prepare notes" This is giving you an idea of what to expect.)
- "Comment on the effectiveness of the policy is being implemented."
- "What financial arguments do you use to justify your recommendations?"
How
do you answer the Questions
You might be able to score higher marks by using these steps to improve your practice:
- Review the scenario thoroughly and become familiar with the contents.
- Reread the entire scenario and then highlight or underline the most important areas of the scenario.
- Review the questions thoroughly and then highlight the main words that are in the question. For instance, "Discuss the moral arguments to implement Safety and Health." The emphasis will be upon "discuss" in addition to "moral." This means that it is essential that your responses are written in complete paragraphs, not simply bullet points. We suggest writing at least 300 words per question (approx. for a question with a mark of 10) to ensure that you're going to the appropriate amount of detail. Avoid using legal or financial arguments in your answers as you will not receive any points for this.
- For the entire exam is 3,000 words with an allowance of 10 percent. The word count should be distributed in accordance with the marks offered across all assignments i.e. when the answer is worth more marks, you need to assign a higher word count than smaller valued questions.
- In your answer, begin with some key words that will provide structure to your answer, e.g. for moral arguments, you can make use of the "effects of an injury, accident or illness."
- You can then go back to formulate your thoughts, connecting it to the major elements of the scenario Don’t take the scenario word by word.
- Don't copy and paste solutions from your textbooks, or on the internet. Answers must be in your own phrases. If you use any word or phrase from your textbooks or on the web, you must refer to it in the footer of your essay.
Exam

reference any quotations or remarks directly from your studies or other online
sources. It is possible to include references at the conclusion of your essay.
We recommend keeping your references to a minimum because most of your answers
must be written in your own phrases.
Follow the steps to upload and submit
your answers. You are able to edit, update or change your submission anytime up
to the exam deadline, following which, the option is no longer available.
